In case you missed it the Thrashers have made 2 deals over the last 24 hours.  The first deal sent Braydon Coburn to the Flyers for Zhitnik, a puck-moving defenseman.  The second deal sent Glen Metropolit and a boat load of draft picks to St. Louis for Tkachuk. I sat next to Glen Metropolit and Dennis Hamel in the press box last night and I told the Star 94 guy I was chatting with that I thought it meant Glen would be on the next ship out via trade.  Its a shame really as I liked the guy and I really liked giving JP a hard time about Metro's success here.  That said he wasn't the key to the Thrahsers making a playoff run...

The scoop on these deals is over at Southeast Shootout.  The Falconer is treating us to some very fine breakdowns of what these players can do.  Read and comment on it over there :)

You were sitting next to a Star94 guy? What was he there for? I'm sure that the only thing that station talked about today was who wore what at the Oscars...

BTW: I'm a little disappointed at the Tkachuk (sp?) trade...we need a center, not a winger...

Wayne, I was surprised too since I don't think of local radio covering the Thrashers. I can't answer the what but he was a nice guy who understood and followed the game and was happy to chat with me about it. I felt a bit like an interloper at the boy's club and was quite happy to have someone talk with me about the game and ask about Southeast Shootout.

I'm concerned about Tkachuk playing on a line with Kovy. Tkachuk isn't known for his defensive prowess and I worry about that line being too scoring centric. That said one thing the team desperately needed, imo, was for a few more people to show a willingness to stand in front of the goal and put in the garbage goals. Tkachuk will do that, and he'll set a good example for others with his presence in the lockerroom and willingness to sacrafice for the team. If he can avoid a minus performance it will turn out to be a great acquisition for the team. If he's -13...well we'll all be crying in our beer come April.
