We are thinking a lot about the move back home these days, and it comes with a bit of apprehension. One of my personal fears about the move is that I'll let my camera get dusty again. Finding inspiration every day is easy when you live in a strange country and travel often. But can I do the same thing at home?
This summer I set out to answer the question by returning to one of my favorite easy hiking trails, Desoto Falls. I've been here several times, could I still find motivation to make use of the camera? Well the answer was a resounding yes. And I was pleased to find inspiration from more than just the obvious falls. By taking the time to really explore the edges of the trail I found all kinds of gems in nature. And because the trail is local, I don't feel rushed to see it all. Taking time to explore and experience the entire area also means I found great surprised like snakes and entire colonies of mushrooms growing tree-side.
The bottom line is that the world is filled with photographic possibilities. You just have to take the time to be present in the moment, and perhaps explore off the beaten path, to find them.
